Contract Award: Norfolk County Council chooses AI-powered technology from Alchera to deliver a better passenger experience for the region's bus users.

Alchera, a leading provider of AI and data-driven mobility solutions, today announced that it has been awarded a new contract with Norfolk County Council, marking a significant step in unlocking data-driven approaches to monitoring and improving the performance of Norfolk’s bus network’s reliability and operational efficiency.

Under the agreement, Alchera will deploy its Alchera Bus solution, an advanced AI-powered analytics platform designed to give transport authorities deeper visibility into network performance. The platform provides accurate, granular insights into bus infrastructure performance, enabling faster decision-making and more proactive management of the network. Deployment will allow the council to understand where investment should be prioritised to meet the evolving needs of its citizens at pace.

Alchera’s partnership with Norfolk County Council began through the Department for Transport-funded Rural Transport Accelerator, delivered by Connected Places Catapult. Through the programme, the partnership co-designed and developed a rural bus connectivity application aimed at identifying gaps in public transport provision across rural Norfolk. Jeremy Wiggin, Head of Sustainable Transport at Norfolk County Council, commented:

“We're delighted to be continuing our partnership with Alchera and the use of their Alchera Bus software is helping us to identify where infrastructure investment is needed on our highway network to reduce delays and congestion. These insights are key to supporting the successful delivery of our Bus Service Improvement Plan and ensuring that future interventions have the greatest impact in terms of enhancing transport connectivity across Norfolk and the quality of life for our residents.”

Alchera’s CEO, Anna Jordan added:

“A key element of our mission at Alchera is to help transport authorities and network operators create reliable, efficient and sustainable transport networks upon which critical services can be delivered effectively. This contract demonstrates continued confidence in our technology and its proven ability to support better outcomes for passengers and infrastructure network operators alike.”
